Covid Launch

We're In!

On behalf of the TYC Harbour Committee and the TYC Bridge, we would like to thank all TYC volunteers who worked last Sunday to help launch the boats.  We would also like to thank the membership for their patience and co-operation as we worked through some new procedures, which we were required to put in place.  As our Commodore Linda Fuhro indicated in past e-blasts - “these are unprecedented times”.

The day went better than planned with our goal to have a safe launch with very few members doing the work. The few looked after the many.  We are aware of other marinas and harbours who will not be able to launch for a few more weeks.  TYC is very fortunate to be in the water!

Thank you to the team leaders:

River Side: Rene Koopmans, Mark Matthews, & team

Bay Side: Matthew Curtis, Nick Seston, & team

Docking Concierge: Dave Fuhro & team

Registration: Mike Wright with family & team

Phone calls to members: Alison Miller & Katherine Koningen

Our lovely escorts to boats: Leanne Sandiford, Angela Koopmans, & Katherine Koningen
We apologise if we forgot to mention you, but please know you were a great help!

Thank you to Ryan Gibbons who lobbied the Town and the Regional Health department in Owen Sound to permit our launch and to the town employees who worked to make launch happen.

What did not work well…

  • No coffee and donuts. Darn you Covid!
  • Registration times as boats were being launched quicker than anticipated.

What worked well…

  • Dedicated committee members who worked the whole day.
  • Use of radios to communicate between team members.
  • High visibility vests representing what jobs committee members were doing.
  • Committee members on the piers to help owners tie up their boats.
  • Calling people on cell phones to come to the harbour.
  • No cars in the harbour meant more room for us to work.
  • Boat owners were physically distanced in an area near their boats waiting to be called forward to launch.

Who knows, this could become our “new normal…”

Dave L'Heureux - Rear Commodore: Harbour

Sail Past in the COVID-World -  Save the Date:  June 27

Sail Past is an important event at TYC as it represents the official kick-off to our sailing season.  We normally hold our Sail Past the first Saturday in June, however, because of the late launch and the uncertainty created by the evolving COVID world we are rescheduling the event to Saturday June 27.

The Bridge and a committee of volunteers are working on a Sail Past event that will be in a different format than in previous years, but nevertheless will be a fun, meaningful and safe event for all.  Stay tuned, we will be providing details of Sail Past in next week's eblast.

Keri Humber - Vice Commodore

RACING SEASON

At this time the racing season is on hold as we are unable to maintain our physical distancing on the boats.  We will revisit the racing season at the end of June and will provide an update at that time.

Mike Molloy - Rear Commodore: Racing
