The Sail for Hope is now a bi-ennial event of the Thornbury Yacht Club located at Thornbury Harbour. This fundraiser brings together both volunteer host skippers with their sail and power boats and guests for a wonderful summer afternoon.
The Thornbury Yacht Club skippers volunteer their boats and crew to take guests on an enjoyable and relaxing cruise through the scenic waters of Southern Georgian Bay. Both our guests and volunteers enjoy the sail and many new friendships are formed during the day’s events. The proceeds from Sail for Hope are donated to the Canadian Cancer Society – Town of the Blue Mountains Branch. Over the last 8 years, the event has raised over $100,000 for the region.

The Sunday event on August 28th starts at 1 pm, the fleet leaves to cruise Southern Georgian Bay. Guests will enjoy views of the many sail and power boats that dot these waters each weekend; enjoy seeing Thornbury, the beautiful shoreline and the natural magnificence of the Niagara Escarpment from a different perspective.
Returning to the Harbour around 4 o’clock, guests, skippers and their crews are invited to enjoy a silent auction, music and take part in other fun fundraising activities. This is followed by our signature food experience ...Taste of Thornbury where several local restaurants that partner with the Thornbury Yacht Club will have booths and offer a tasting of their signature dishes. Taste Thornbury's best food experiences provided by these restaurants and purveyors of fresh local food that have partnered with the TYC for this event:
...and live entertainment by Jon Zaslow
Jon Zaslow (aka "The Fabulous Johnny Zee”) is a singer/songwriter who now resides in Thornbury, on beautiful Georgian Bay, originally from London and Toronto.
Jon's early musical career focused on his guitar playing, where he played on others’ albums, jingles and the like. It turns out he has the knack for tunesmithery, and has spent the last 20 years developing this skill. To date he has 3 CDs to his credit, with a 4th n the works. They have been well received and his reputation is now established. Jon’s drive to write a great song came from the desire to re-create a mood and energy he felt from his early listening to the Beatles, Steely Dan and the like.
