BUMP & GRIND BULLETIN
FOR 20-Aug-19

Life Jacket Program Report

110+ jackets collected during the promotion duration: July 15 to Aug 19 (exceeding the already ambitious targets). Some jackets donated were brand new with tags still attached. People actually walked into Gyles Sails and Marine and purchased jackets and then donated them. The estimate is that 30% of the jackets were children's.

Through Dwight Dyson's leadership working together with Gyles, the Town of Blue Mountains (especially Jason Hindle) and our illustrious Harbour staff: communications were from Gyles Sails and Marine (e blasts, poster display and facebook postings), the Harbour Office (poster display, drop-off location, e blasts and an article in the town's newspaper), TYC (Bump and Grind, and Poster display next to the BBQ), and diverted donations from the Beaver Valley Outreach.

All donations, across Ontario, will be airlifted from Camp Borden into the north and support for the Indigenous "Canadian Ranger Program".

Thanks Dwight for helping us participate in this worthy cause!

Harbour Update

On August 12th, the chart datum's true reading showed the water level at 133cm above chart datum (the Lowest Astronomical Tide – LAT).

Have you ever been down at your boat, stocking up your ice box for a beautiful day on the water, only to realize you've forgotten one essential thing? Ice! Did you know the harbour sells ice? You can come into the office to purchase or stop at the fuel dock on your way out where we will happily sell you either bags of cubes ($2.50) or blocks ($3.00).

As the middle of August and beginning of September are quickly approaching, we wanted to remind all boaters to be both aware of, and prepared for stronger winds and waves.

After the Labour Day weekend our hours will change back to 8am – 4pm. If you require assistance outside of those hours, please contact the harbour via phone (519.599.3131 ext.330) or email (harbour@thebluemountains.ca) and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Introducing….Michelle
This has been Michelle's first season working at the harbour and she has really enjoyed her time here so far. Two of her favourite parts of working at the harbour are getting to spend each day by the water and having the opportunity of learning many new skills.

Michelle is currently attending Redeemer University College in Hamilton, studying English and music.

In her spare time I run, spend time outside and practice guitar/sing.

Fun Fact: After a year of volunteering overseas (In between high school and first year of uni) Michelle discovered she has a passion for teaching and hopes to go back to Guatemala someday to teach again!
