BUMP & GRIND BULLETIN
FOR 29-Nov-17

Congratulations to the Thornbury Yacht Club,

Carla Nicolson and Doug Johnston

On November 16, Carla and Doug were invited to attend the Canadian Cancer Society Volunteer Appreciation Evening where they received the Celebrating Impact in Community Fundraising Award on behalf of the Thornbury Yacht Club, recognizing TYC's and their work organizing the TYC's 2016 Sail for Hope event.  This community-level award recognizes a group or individual that initiated or championed an independent fundraising event that resulted in a significant financial contribution to the Canadian Cancer Society.  The 2016 Sail for Hope raised a total of $25,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society's local Wheels of Hope Program; that's 10% of the annual budget.  Many members participated in the Sail for Hope by volunteering their boats and time to take members of the public for an afternoon cruise on Georgian Bay in return for their donation to the Cancer Society.  The cruise was followed by food and beverage samplings from local restaurant partners, a silent auction of articles from local businesses, additional donation opportunties and live entertainment.

TYC has hosted Sail for Hope ten times and has raised over $100,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

In addition, Carla was awarded the Canadian Cancer Society's Celebrating Impact in Community Leadership Award recognizing Carla for her part in initiating change within the Canadian Cancer Society through her exceptional contributions and selfless volunteer leadership in organizing the 2016 Sail for Hope.

Thank you, Carla and Doug, for representing the TYC in our community in this way and congratulations on the awards!
