FOR 12-Jul-17

South Rendezvous Recap

It was an outstanding turnout, a record, with 29 boats attending the South Rendezvous on Saturday. Everyone gathered for appetizers on the beach at Hope Island in the afternoon and then went out on the water for the un-naming of Solveig and the re-naming of Pogue Mahone (Mark Matthews Boat). You will have to ask Mark for the meaning of the name, but please be assured that the proper protocol was followed with champagne and other offerings to the gods of water and wind. In the evening many returned to shore to BBQ dinner and have a sing song around the camp fire. Thanks very much to Rene Koopmans for being the coordinator this year.

There was also a good turn out for the start of the fun race back to Thornbury. Boats started when they wished and were to keep track of their start and finish times. Special thanks to Steven Wimmer for all the effort he put into organizing this race. Steven has a magical program that calculates winners and place holders even if you turned your engine on to get home. Speaking for ourselves on Guardian II, when the winds dwindled and the GPS said 15 hours to our destination, it was an easy decision to turn on our engine. Many others followed suit. So, in order to tabulate the results of the Fun Race Steven still needs everyone who started the race to send him an email with the following information:

  • boat name
  • your start time and your finish time (at the fairway mark)
  • did you use your engine and if so, for how long
  • who was aboard (include ages if there were any children)
  • any special comments or description of a special aspect of the voyage or the rendezvous in general

News from the Harbour: Dinghy Dock

Slipholders are requested to use the dinghy dock on the inside of the hurricane basin (by the pavilion) for the their dinghies instead of keeping it in their slip or on davits on their boat. There is no charge for use of the dinghy dock. Owners are simply requested to ensure their name or the name of their sail/power boat is on the dinghy somewhere and that any motors are locked to the dinghy. This ensures that if there is an issue, that the harbour staff know who to contact.

Speaking of issues...if you are the owner of the Aquamarine dinghy with the small engine, kindly contact Carla (416 346 6247) or Jason at the harbour office (519-599-3131 ext 330).
